Born in Weston-Super-Mare, Ford served in the British Army seeing action in both the Balkans and Iraq and reaching the rank of major. On leaving the army he worked at the Universities of Exeter and Oxford. Foord stood for the Liberal Democrats in North Somerset in the 2017 general election. He was elected to parliament in June 2022 winning the by- election caused by the resignation of disgraced Tory MP Neil Parish. In parliament he has campaigned to legalise wild camping in the Dartmoor National Park. He is currently the Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Defence.
