I am trying to trace the whereabouts of the minute books of the National Liberal Federation, as operated in the later nineteenth century, from 1877. Bristol University’s Special Collections archive holds the proceedings of the NLF’s Council, but a 1962 article by the late Barry McGill on Liberal organisation makes reference to several minute books and states ‘I am grateful to the Executive of the Liberal Party Organisation for permission to quote from these minutes of the NLF’. He cites minutes from the General Committee and the Officers’ Committee. These are not held by Bristol. An MLitt thesis from 1970s includes a reference to Barry McGill having taken copies before the originals were lost, but he passed away two decades ago and I haven’t managed to find any archival materials of his. Any information on the whereabouts of these materials would be most appreciated.
